Traci Lords – Erotic Myths

Nora Louise Kuzma, better known as Traci Lords (the name Katherine Hepburn took in the “The Philadelphia Story”) was born in Steubenville, Ohio, on the 7th of May, 1968. She’s an American actress who started in porn and later managed to find her place in conventional cinema, music and even became a writer and an entrepreneur.

It didn’t take her too long to change from supporting roles to leading ones. In the 80s, she starred in many porn movies, with actresses like Ginger Lynn and actors such as John Stagliano and Paul Thomas. Although she only worked in the production of explicit sex movies for a couple of years, her filmography is more than abundant. By the way, Traci Lords started in porn when she was still underage falsifying her I.D. card!!!

In 1986, when Traci had just turned eighteen and become an adult, the press revealed the fact of her being under age in porn movies. The authorities conducted an investigation that finished with many producers in jail and most of Traci’s movies withdrawn from the market.

When the scandal occurred, Traci was in France, shooting the film which would become her last in pornography: “Traci I love you”.

This is the only legally available porn movie from Traci in the U.S.A., which made her quite rich as she owned the rights of distribution and since then, people have craved for this film as it became a cult classic.

Traci started her career in conventional cinema detaching herself from porn, which she rejects now.

She has worked in big-budget movies like John Waters’ “Cry Baby”, with Johnny Depp, “Serial Mom”, with Kathleen Turner, the futuristic thriller “Virtuosity”, along with Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe and, more recently, “Blade”, Wesley Snipes’ blockbuster where he incarnates the character from Marvel. She even performed as the villain in an action and martial arts Chinese-American co-production called “Black Mask 2”, from one of the most renown directors in China, Tsui Hark.

She also collaborated in an album from Iggy Pop, her castmate in “Cry Baby”. She sang “Little Baby Nothing”, from the Manic Street Preachers and the backing vocals in “Somebody to love”, a cover of Jefferson Airplane’s song that the Ramones made for their 1993 album of covers “Acid Eaters”.

Besides, she worked with one of my favourite trance Djs, Juno Reactor, in a song of her first album “1000 fires”. It is nineties techno-pop with great tracks like “Control”, the one she made with Juno, which became very famous because it’s one of the main songs in the soundtrack of the movie Mortal Kombat (specifically when Liu Kang fights Reptile).

Years later, she made a new album and worked in comedies like “Zack & Miri make a porno”, from the great Kevin Smith.

Nowadays, she keeps with her career in acting, producing, making music and also writing, as she has written her memoirs, where she tells her true story, refuting many lies that have circulated about her.
