Today, I’d like to talk to you about a movie I watched a few weeks ago; actually, it was Maya Homerton who said I should watch it. We were at my place talking about BDSM and she told me she had found this film the closest to reality, from conventional movies on the topic, forget about 50 Shades of Grey or shit alike!!! So I decided to watch it out of curiosity and I trully loved it 🙂
Maggie Gyllenhaal is the actress who impersonates Lee, our main character, a disheveled slushy young girl who lives with her parents. These latter have a troublesome relationship and the father has problems with alcohol. She has her own bolt-hole when trouble comes around, she goes to a box she has kept since childhood with several sharp objects and she mutilates herself, mostly performing small cuts on her legs.
One day, she’s looking for a job and turns up at an office where a secretary is needed. It’s the perfect post for her because she’s highly skilled when it comes to typing. This is when our second protagonist comes into play, Edward, enacted by James Spader, an eccentric lawyer.
Edward and Lee have the most ordinary of laboral relationships until she starts committing some orthographic mistakes, something he can’t bear, and conflict arises. At the same time, Lee has problems at home and, when she can’t resist anymore, she mutilates herself at the office. Edward discovers it and tells her to stop. From then on, he will lead her pain towards tasks he will command her to do every time she commits a mistake, this way she will stop hurting herself to become his submissive servant.
Days go by, Lee falls in love with Edward and she even fails on purpose in order to get her wished for punishment, which is now pleasurable for her. On the other side, Edward is not open to love so the day comes that he fires Lee. She can’t accept this sudden separation and decides to do everything in her hand to make Edward understand that a dominant-submissive relationship is possible in a couple.
